I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is still water leaking, turn off the service valve to the appliance or fixture if possible, or go immediately to the main shutoff valve for your home. If you’re unable to find a water valve to turn off, then you may want to try turning on all the cold water taps inside and outside your residence to depressurise the pipework and reduce the leak.

Once you have stopped the diaster from worsening, give our emergency plumber a ring, any time of the day or night. They’ll be there quickly to solve the issue.

While you wait for our emergency plumber, remove any important items, mop up any water, and place a container to catch drips. You also should turn off the hot water heating if the main water is turned off.
