I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

What do you do when a plumbing emergency arises? The very first thing is to ensure it's safe, and hopefully not getting even worse. Electricity and water do not combine safely, so if you need to, turn the mains switch off at the power panel.

If there is still water leaking, turn off the service valve to the appliance or fixture if possible, or go straight to the main valve for your home. If you’re unable to locate the tap to turn off, then you could try turning on all the cold water taps inside and outside your home to depressurise the pipework and minimise the leak.

Once that is sorted, give our plumber a ring, whatever the day or time is. We will be with you promptly to fix the leak.

While you are waiting, clear away any significant things close to the leak, and mop up any water or put a bucket to catch any drips. If you’ve turned the mains water off, switch off the heating for the hot water as well.
