I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

If water is leaking, turn the water off at the nearest service valve and then at the mains tap outside. If you cannot find the main shutoff valve or a tap to the fixture, then turn on the cold taps inside and out to depressurise the system and reduce the leak.

While you wait, begin cleaning up any water, position a container to catch drips, and clear away valuable possessions from the area. If the mains water is turned off, then also switch off the heating for the hot water.
